Friends Who Are Going
Event description

We are sponsored by our friends at Cambridge Raspberry Jam

Cambridge Raspberry Jam – CamJam

We're holding a Raspberry Pi Jam in York! It's a family-friendly event - everyone is welcome. We'll be providing coding and digital making activities for children and adults to participate in, to have fun and learn with the Raspberry Pi computer. Jams are a great way to share ideas and meet like-minded people.

We have companies running workshops - we'll announce these with times closer to the date of the event.

You don't need to bring anything but you can bring your own Raspberry Pi if you want, we will supply worksheets and everything you'll need for our prepared informal activities. Staff will be on hand to help.

If you have a project you'd like to bring along, please contact the organiser at luke.yorkpijam@gmail.com. We'd love to showcase your home projects to demonstrate what can be done with the Pi.

You will need to bring money or your own food. There are local stores nearby such as a Tesco Express, a Costcutter and a Londis with a petrol station as well as some of our local pubs which sell food.

Start and end time

The event will open at 10.00am and an opening talk will start proceedings. The schedule for activites will be given to you on the day of the jam, and the event will close at 5.00pm.

Do I need to bring any money?

The event if free but if you want to buy some kit from Raspberry Pi suppliers and/or if you want to buy food from nearby shops and pubs then you need to bring money. Also please bring some money to buy one of our raffle tickets to win Raspberry Pi goodies to support our next jams.

Who can come?

Anyone. There’s no lower or upper age limit, and no prior knowledge is required. Jams regularly get under 8s and over 60s attending.

Do I need to know any programming?

No. If you want to learn to code, we can help.

Do I need any equipment?

No. If you have a Raspberry Pi you can bring it along with you if you want.

Can I buy a Raspberry Pi from you on the day?

We will have a hall full of stalls from sellers. Go wild!

Can I drop my kids off and pick them up at the end?

No. Children under 16 must be supervised at all times. Adults supervising children must order a ticket too.

How do I get there?

Follow the posters, we have members of staff to help you. Then check in after the automatic doors with one of our members who will be situated at a desk.

Is parking available?

There is a small car park at the site but that will become full within minutes. Cycle parking is available too. You can park on the nearby streets but make sure you don't block any roads or drives. You could use the service bus 'number 5' as there is a local bus stop nearby.

I can’t get there for the 10am start. Is that ok?

That’s fine. You can come and leave as you please.

I ordered a ticket but now I can’t make it. What do I do?

If you go in to your eventbrite account and view your order, you can cancel it to allow someone else to take your place, hopefully you can come next time.

Are there more events like this?

There are other Jams which run all over the UK and beyond. See a map of events at www.raspberrypi.org/jam. Also check out our twitter page @YorkPiJam and we will tweet when we are running our next York jam.
