Interested in learning key foundational coaching skills and principles? Do you wish to develop a coaching approach to leadership?
About this event
Do you wish to develop your leadership style using coaching techniques and approaches? Would you like to improve your ability to motivate and support others to improve their performance? Are you interested in pursuing coaching training, and want a solid introduction?
A coaching style of leadership is about learning not to lead in the traditional sense but more to facilitate others to come up with their own solutions. The leader holds more questions than answers and aims to develop the problem-solving muscle of teams, rather than being the one who solves the problems, thereby building greater capacity and engagement in those they work with.
Previous participants have included those working in the creative industries, charities, local government, arts, heritage and education sectors - as well as many freelancers and artists - in a wide varierty of roles, and at all different stages of their careers from apprentices to CEOs!
What does it cover?
Topics explored in the training include:
- Foundation coaching skills: philosophy and application
- Active Listening and Effective Enquiry
- Group coaching (using a simplified Action Learning model)
- Coaching cultures and a coaching style of leadership
By the end of the day all participants will have:
- Experienced coaching and being coached
- Developed active listening and effective questioning skills
- Explored the GROW model of coaching
- Used their coaching skills in a group context through Action Learning

I have done an RD1st half or full day course before - what would this course offer me?
This course uses the same material as the one-day course we run on several leadership programmes, including Clore Leadership Programme, Clore Short Course and engage Extend programme. For those who have previously only done the half-day version, this course introduces Action Learning and the day includes several opportunities to apply and practice skills. The course is enjoyed by many people wanting to refresh, deepen and explore these skills and approaches further - even if they have experienced similar training in the past.
