About this event

Another day for celebrating Edith Holden, the Birmingham author and illustrator of The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.

During Birmingham Heritage Week we will be once again celebrating the life and works of local illustrator and artist, Edith Holden.

The day will follow a similar shape as our wonderful Spring event.

Local Holden enthusiast (creator of two Edith Holden trails) will kick off the day with a presentation, the rest of the day will be dedicated to drawing/creating in the Gardens full of autumnal colour and produce.

As before we will have some professional artists on hand to add interest and support to your own work .

This is a Fundraising Day for the Garden Trust. The activities will be free – but normal entrance fees apply. All further donations will be very welcome.

Please register your interest below – so we can make sure we have sufficient supplies for your drawing.

There are lots of seats and benches on which to perch, and it is our hope that you will be encouraged to sketch artworks with pastels, fine pens, or just pencils, that showcase the autumnal palette of the Gardens in late September.

Delve into the colours of the huge variety of trees we have here, and explore how you can recreate their hues on paper.

Why not come along and indulge in the history of a local woman artist, and an afternoon spent in creativity and Mother Nature?

Please note that this event will be bookable so we know how much artists’ equipment to set aside. We have filled up our seats for the day but you can still come along and participate…please bring your own chair, or just come in at any time… and take a line for a walk … draw , draw , draw…

(normal entry fees apply)

There’s more of interest the next day ( Sunday)- during the afternoon we’ll be welcoming experimental textile artists and crafters from the Birmingham Nettle Project will be preparing nettles and processing them by twining and spinning – they’re happy to be watched and will answer any questions.
