Event description
The first event in a series of three roundtable seminars delivered by Bobab exploring the Future of Public Health in Africa

About this Event

With the recent outbreak in the DRC, the Ebola virus is once more grabbing the headlines and bringing the acute shortage of healthcare professionals across Africa into sharp focus yet again. The reality, however, is that emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases are constantly incubating and erupting across the continent. There is an urgent need to invest in building research capacity, with more academics and scientists to strengthen and improve epidemic and pandemic preparedness. In this first event of the series, we identify the disruptive tech helping health practitioners do more with less. We will also explore new ways to operationalise evidence collation and the challenge of embedding disease surveillance and modelling into the fabric of the healthcare sector.

Key discussion points:

  • Disruptive tech and innovation in healthcare
  • Explore learning’s from past epidemics and the need to build research capacity
  • The collation and utilisation of disease surveillance and modelling for pandemic preparedness
  • Promoting Africa-led and equitable research collaboration in and for Africa

This is Event 1 in ‘The Future of Public Health in Africa’ campaign, a series of three events exploring the challenges and opportunities defining public health in Africa today, as well as those that will come to shape it in the future.

We’ll be tackling a range of issues including emerging and re-emerging infectious disease, mental health and NCDs; and public health financing.

In person and live-streamed to out global online community, join us as we spotlight the latest scientific, technological and commercial innovation happening in and for Africa, and the people and organisations making it happen.

With insights canvassed from across Africa and around the world, we will identify a number of key recommendations that will be published after each event.
