Generation Shift: Re-wiring healthcare around childhood to improve lives and create value of hundreds of billions.
Children are our future. Eighty per cent of lifetime health is laid down before age 18, yet children receive barely a tenth of total healthcare spend. Every Integrated Care System (ICS) is now legally bound to reduce inequalities, but most boards and success metrics are still focused on adults, elective waits and A&E targets. By keeping investment downstream, we risk cementing today’s backlogs, while missing the single biggest lever for long-term fiscal and population-health gain.
Time to think differently
With the 10-Year Plan, there is a rare opportunity to reset priorities. Children—who account for the greatest opportunity to prevent future illness and inequalities —remain chronically underfunded, despite their centrality to long-term system sustainability.
We need to change how we allocate resources and care for children. This requires different leadership, ways of working, models of care and “business models”. In the webinar we will be sharing how this can be done and a blueprint for caring for children and young people – rewiring the NHS around childhood.
