Join historical writer, former journalist and published author, Susan Brownrigg, who will lead this creative writing workshop. Susan often uses archive materials to ensure her mystery novels for children and adults are fun and accurate. In this workshop, we will explore old newspapers as stimulus to prompt your story ideas.

Susan enjoys delivering author talks, workshops and events to all ages. She is a former journalist and sub-editor, heritage and wildlife educator, and museum learning manager. She now works as a part time library assistant and is currently studying an MA in creative writing. She is the author of five historical mysteries for children aged 8+ published by Fox and Ink Books. Her latest, Wrong Tracks, inspired by the Rainhill Trials, received a five-star review in the Daily Telegraph. She is currently working on her first historical mystery for adults.

A gripping read for youngsters about a pivotal moment in the early days of steam’ - Editor’s Choice, June 2025, Heritage Railway Magazine.
