Read Better, Write Better

By The Writers Workshop

Overview

In celebration of 2026 Year of Reading, this workshop will explore how being a better reader will make you a better writer.

Stephen King says that if you want to be a writer, you need to do two things: read a lot and write a lot. In this session, we'll be taking his advice to heart! By closely examining a number of extracts, we'll explore how careful reading can make you a better writer. This practical workshop will focus on the stylistic and narrative choices that elevate a piece of prose and turn it into something truly compelling.

Facilitated by Gavin Extence. Gavin has been a professional novelist for fifteen years. He has written 6 books for adults and young adults and has been published in over twenty languages. He loves to write (and read) across a broad range of genres, with particular interests in literary fiction, dark humour, coming-of-age, Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
