About this event

The Read -Treat was born out of the idea that some of us...

  • love learning & want our learning to be self-led
  • love books (real, paper ones) and immersing oursleves in a topic
  • love in-person, meaningful conversation that challenges and inspires us
  • want to spend time with others who feel the same way
  • want it to feel like community

So here it is... an event where we:

  • share what we're choosing to read
  • read (in silence) in the company of others
  • talk about what we learnt from that reading time
  • exchange book recommendations rather than business cards

Previous Read-Treaters said:

  • 'You have no idea what you might get out of it - that's the beauty'
  • 'It's about connecting to others, learning for myself as well as from others'
  • 'It's an opportunity to switch off and connect with like-minded individuals'
  • 'Space for focused time for my development'
  • 'Interesting chats and potential new subjects and books to read'
  • 'It's a next level up Book Club'

Frequently asked questions

Does it need to be a non-fiction book

Yes - but it can be on any topic - business or belly-dancing

Can I bring 2 books?

You can bring 5 and read 10 pages of each in the available time if you want to.

Does it matter if I am a slow reader?

Not at all, this is not competitive reading. The aim is to provide enough time for you to read something of value/interest to you.

What if I need time to reflect before we start talking?

You can share or you can listen. We will stop for coffee after reading to allow for a gap. You can read on, reflect or talk in that gap.

Is coffee provided?

To keep the event free, no drinks are included but there is a bar for you to make use of.

Should I bring business cards?

You can bring teddy, a cushion and a pot plant if it helps you relax - but there is no allocated time for card swapping. I suggest you come prepared to ask 'So what book did you bring?' rather than 'So what do you do?

Is there parking?

Yes, this is a large pub with its own car park
