Reading Between The Lines
Overview
Inference is one of the most important skills needed to understand texts, yet we know that many children find it a particularly difficult skills. In this presentation, Rachel Clarke, explores inference and provides advice on how to teach it. The course uses examples from children’s literature and equips delegates to teach inference in creative and effective ways so that their children can open up the lines of text and find the hidden answers.
Course objectives:
- Establish what is meaning by inference
- Consider a selection of practical inference activities
- Provide course delegates with ‘take away’ ideas to embed in their teaching
- Explore how inference is tested at the end of KS2.
Handouts and resources are provided electronically and colleagues are encouraged to bring their laptop or electronic device to annotate their handouts as the session is delivered.
