Reading for Pleasure: pedagogy and practice

About this Event
Elmhurst Teaching School Alliance and New Vision English Hub invite those committed to developing children’s desire, delight and engagement as readers to join our OU/UKLA supported Reading for Pleasure (RfP) FREE five session CPD course. Those who commit will be expected to attend all sessions and will receive an Open University certificate upon submission of a a small-scale action research project completed as part of the sessions.
Sessions will initially be held virtually via Zoom with a hope to meet in person at Elmhurst Primary School when Covid restrictions allow.
COURSE AIMS:
- support teachers, leaders and other school staff in developing a RfP culture within and beyond the classroom
- support the development of whole-school reading for pleasure strategies
- develop participants’ knowledge of children’s literature and the children as readers
- support staff in evaluating impact of RfP strategies
- share RfP expertise with colleagues locally and nationally through an action research project published online
FACILITATOR:
The sessions will be facilitated by Katharine Young, AHT at Elmhurst Primary School. Katharine has run similar CPD for several years and has led the development of a RfP culture at Elmhurst for a number of years. Elmhurst Primary School is a Joint Winner of the Egmont Whole School Reading for Pleasure Award for 2019.
DATES:
Sessions will be held at Elmhurst Primary School on the following Mondays from 1.30- 3.15pm:
1st February, 1st March, 29th March, 26th April, 14th June
COST:
FREE (non-attendance without notice will be charged at £50 per person)
