About this event

Join our friendly volunteer Zoe for a chat about all things books and reading. It will be a relaxed and informal conversation, a way to connect with others whilst having a cup of tea at home. These sessions will be fortnightly on Monday at 7pm.

Next session 28 June

Windrush Day: Celebrating Contributions and Recognising Hardships of the Windrush Generation Through Literature

June 2021 marks 73 years since the SS Empire Windrush docked in Essex, carrying Caribbean migrants to the UK to aid the re-build of Britain in the aftermath of World War 2. As well as replenishing the workforce however, the Windrush generation provided a cultural enrichment that would change British society forever. Join us at Reading Friends as we celebrate the contributions and recognise the hardships of the Windrush Generation and their descendants through literature written by and about them.

Feel free to bring your own ideas and reading materials to contribute!

Please note:

  • Each date will need to be booked separately, we advise booking them as soon as you can, so you can attend weekly
  • The sessions will be delivered via Zoom.
  • Part of our funding requires you to fill out a short questionnaire before you start the sessions
  • Further details will be sent once a ticket has been booked - don't forget to check your junk mail for your order confirmation.
  • If you cannot make the session please cancel your ticket to allow space for others.
