The Poetry Club of Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Leeds, under the coordination of Professor Diana Cullell (University of Liverpool), is launching a new series of readings dedicated to “Women’s Voices in Poetry”. This club offers our students the opportunity to explore prominent female figures in contemporary Spanish poetry, such as Ana Rossetti, Elvira Sastre, and María Victoria Atencia.

In each session, participants will be able to immerse themselves in the work of a poet through the reading of their poems, presented in both Spanish and English. Professor Cullell will enrich the experience with her commentary, creating a participatory space where all attendees can share their insights into the meanings of the poems.

The first session is dedicated to three women poets:

Laura Cesarco Eglin (Uruguay, 1976) is the author of several poetry collections translated into English, including Between Gone and Leaving—Home, Time / Tempo: The Idea of Breath, Life, One Not Attached to Conditionals, Reborn in Ink / Volver en tinta, and Calling Water by Its Name / Llamar al agua por su nombre, among others.

María Rosa Lojo (Argentina, 1954) is the author of La pasión de los nómades (The Passion of Nomads, 1994), La princesa federal (The Federalist Princess, 1998), Una mujer de fin de siglo (A Woman of Century’s End, 1999), Las Libres del Sur (Free Women of the South, 2004), and Finisterre (2005).

Olga Orozco (Argentina, 1920–1999) authored a long list of poetry collections, among which are Las muertes (1952), Los juegos peligrosos (1962), Museo Salvaje (1974), and Con esta boca, en este mundo (1994).

Diana Cullell is a Professor of Hispanic Studies at the ULniversity of Liverpool and a specialist in Spanish and Catalan literature and culture. She has published on different authors and literary movements, interested in new forms of poetry and their new interpretations; contemporary Spanish and Catalan poetry; and representations of the body in literature or the Spanish poetry market from 1980 to the present. Her publications include La perfopoesía española en el siglo XXI: una revolución poética (Madrid: Amargord, 2019); Spanish Contemporary Poetry: An Anthology(Manchester University Press, 2014); or La Poesía de la Experiencia Española de Finales del Siglo XX al XXI (Madrid: Devenir, 2010).

El Club de Poesía del Instituto Cervantes en Mánchester y Leeds, bajo la coordinación de la profesora Diana Cullell (Universidad de Liverpool), lanza una nueva serie de lecturas dedicadas a los "Poesía en femenino". Este club ofrece a nuestros estudiantes la oportunidad de explorar a figuras destacadas de la poesía contemporánea española en femenino, como Ana Rossetti, Elvira Sastre y María Victoria Atencia.

En cada sesión, los participantes podrán sumergirse en la obra de un poeta a través de la lectura de sus poemas, presentados tanto en español como en inglés. La profesora Cullell enriquecerá la experiencia con sus comentarios, creando un espacio participativo donde todos los asistentes podrán compartir sus interpretaciones sobre los significados de los poemas.

La primera sesión del ciclo está dedicada a tres poetas:

Diana Cullell es catedrática de Estudios Hispánicos en la Universidad de Liverpool y especialista en literatura y cultura española y catalana. Ha publicado sobre diversos autores y movimientos literarios, interesándose por las nuevas formas de poesía y sus nuevas interpretaciones; la poesía española y catalana contemporánea; las representaciones del cuerpo en la literatura o el mercado de la poesía española desde 1980 hasta la actualidad. Entre sus publicaciones destacan La perfopoesía española en el siglo XXI: una revolución poética (Madrid: Amargord, 2019); Spanish Contemporary Poetry: An Anthology(Manchester University Press, 2014); o La Poesía de la Experiencia Española de Finales del Siglo XX al XXI (Madrid: Devenir, 2010).
