Event description
An open discussion, writing and reading group based around specific texts that present themes of natural light.

About this Event

An open discussion, writing and reading group based around specific texts that present themes of natural light, physical lightness and philosophical lightness. Preceding the event, the interested attendants will be sent extracts from various texts that explore these themes and symbols. These will include novels such as Milan Kundera’s ‘Unbearable Lightness of Being’, Calvino’s ‘Cosmicomics’, Nabakov’s ‘Transparent Things’ and Yūko Tsushima’s ‘Territory of Light’.

Rosie is a young artist and recent graduate of Manchester School of Art whose practice explores philosophical and fictional narratives towards weightlessness, lightness and systems. She is also a member of Soft Spot, a new artist-led space for collaboration and inter-disciplinary exchange in the basement gallery of Manchester’s Mirabel studios. Rosie presents this event as a continuation of her critical exploration into Italo Calvino’s ‘Cosmicomics’ and how themes of lightness are presented though Calvino’s storytelling.
