Event description

Description

Join us on June 14th for this Policy Network sponsored teach-in about how to propose and plan DAUK events, with a hands-on focus on organizing a proposal and plans for a DAUK-wide symposium on the US 2018 Midterm Election in September. Creating events that inform and inspire plays a critical role in sustaining members' engagement and energy.

Leaders and experienced organizers across DAUK will be on hand to take you through all aspects of the planning process. The live case study will focus on discusssing and developing an informative and engaging policy+activism event on the Midterms that can galvanize our members and fellow Americans in the UK to work together for a November Blue Wave.

We expect this session to empower new and old DAUK members with the knowledge and skills to organize effective, dynamic events serving the mission of the DAUK. If you feel a passion for creating events that will educate and mobilize fellow Americans to be 'ready for the midterms', then this meeting is a must-attend.

Since the Policy Network is reaching out across DAUK Committees and Caucuses for the proposed Midterm event and this teach-in, it will also be a great opportunity to network and share ideas and innovative approaches.

If you want to learn the ‘nuts and bolts’ about organizing a DAUK event or to share your experience and ideas about organizing DAUK events with new members, we urge you to attend!

Some of the questions that will be addressed:

How do you conceive, propose and then get approval for a DAUK event? What types of events on the midterms will inform and galvanize our members? How do you prepare a budget and find venues? How do you estimate attendance and no-shows?

Why and how are all DAUK-wide events organized through our DAUK EventBrite account? How do you get your event on the DAUK website, Facebook and Twitter - have you heard about the "wufoo form"? What are the tips for effective promotion?

Spaces will be limited. We kindly ask that you book early and let us know in good time, should your plans change, so that your booking may be offered to someone else.

Before the teach-in, updated guides and resources for planning DAUK events will be available and used for the hands-on planning.

If you can, please bring a laptop, tablet or smartphone. You will have online access to key resources.
