This one day event will launch the 2016-18 ACE small capital grants scheme “Ready to Borrow” in the East Midlands, which is administered by Museum Development East Midlands (MDEM).
The scheme encourages museums in the region to make partnerships with national museums through borrowing objects. Museums can apply for grants of up to £50K to purchase capital assets that enable projects to meet the required standards of national museums when loaning their collections. Grant applications open on 17 August 2016 with a closing date of 24 October 2016. We strongly recommend those that are thinking of applying attend the day.
The day will also feature case studies of successful projects from the previous round of small capital grants, including a chance to see the Lakeside Museum of Archaeology exhibition in partnership with the British Museum (BM), for which a small capital grant funded the purchase of high quality, secure display cases.
There will be a chance to meet with the BM to explore how you can access loans from and MDEM can give you other relevant contacts at all national museums.
The day will conclude with bid writing surgeries to help you scope your project and receive advice from Regional Museum Development Manager, Claire Browne. Claire will also explain how the funding works in terms of phased payments and requirements of applicants.
Who should attend:
-Anyone wishing to apply to the small capital grants fund “Ready to Borrow”
-Museums wanting to understand how to borrow objects from national museums
*We recommend you bring more than one representative per organisation
Please note only accredited museums or those working towards accreditation are eligible for the grant scheme. Museums receiving Major Partner Museum (MPM) funding from ACE are not eligible to apply. Spaces are limited, so to avoid disappoint book your place as soon as possible. Booking closes on the 13th of September.
