Description

PLEASE NOTE - This event is almost fully booked. The tickets which remain are NOT available online. They can be acquired from our in person box office which is open 2nd and 3rd September in Winchester Tourist Information.

The Royal Oak is reputed to be the 'oldest licensed bar in England'. The lower Bar was first used to brew beer over 1000 years ago. The earliest royal connection with the Royal Oak dates to 1002 when King Ethelred the Unready granted his wife (Queen) Emma the tenement then known as Godebiete as a wedding present. Their son King Edward the Confessor almost certainly spent part of his early years on the property.

We will be hosting two real ale sessions on the opening day of the festival (Friday 13th September) when there will be a short presentation on the history of the pub, after the presentation there will be a little ale tasting session where by people can try a few different ales and find out they are made and experience the different flavours.

Please note this event is being held in the cellar. and there is no level access There are also steps into the building, and within the building itself.

Main pub is free to explore from 11am until 5pm but the ale tasting session must be pre-booked. Over 18 years only for ale tasting
