Event description

Description

Finding things out for yourself is at the very heart of science. Sir Paul Nurse, Past President of the Royal Society

Join young scientists and other expert speakers in a symposium to explore how we can create more opportunities for authentic research and genuine investigations for young people in our Nottingham Schools.

This event is part of the 2018 Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity.

Speakers include:

Prof Becky Parker MBE – Director of the Institute for Research in Schools; IRIS supports school students and teachers to work alongside research scientists giving them opportunities to be involved in authentic research.

and

Hephzi Angela Tagoe – co-Founder of GHScientific, Ghana’s Science Network; Hephzi will describe her current work in Essex and Ghana, and how a love of science is fostered by hands-on experiments and research.

And the voices of children and young people will be represented by members of Lab_13 Student Management Committees.

If Nottingham is to thrive as a Science City, we need young people and their families to feel that science matters to them, that their curiosity is valued, and that there are opportunities to explore science ideas for pleasure as well as proficiency.
