'A conversation event in Tayside to explore the challenges & opportunities of Realistic Medicine'

'Gregor Smith, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the Scottish Government will give the opening address to the conference. The morning session will include a number of short presentations from members of the public and a range of medical professionals who will describe and discuss different perspectives and work ongoing in Tayside under the Realistic Medicine agenda.'

  • Understanding the principles & opportunities in 'Realistic Medicine' as they impact on the delivery of safe sustainable health and social care

  • Building confidence through engagement in tackling the difficult issues that surface when trying to practice realistic care

  • Forming new connections between professionals across different sectors and citizens and contribute to innovative thinking

  • Informing the approach being taken in Tayside to ensure excellent care is delivered in a person centred and sustainable manner


'Four key themes will be discussed in the afternoon'

  1. Co-production: an approach to prescribing, tackling waste, utilising social prescribing etc

  2. Managing medicolegal risk: the fear of complaint when practising realistic medicine

  3. Effective Citizen Engagement: ways in which we are listening to citizens voices and insights

  4. Co-authoring the last chapters of our lives: a consistent approach to supporting individuals as the end of life draws near
