Description

A Talk with Dr (DC) John O'Malley

A 3-hour workshop to allow participants to:

  • Fully understand what “accepted scientific truth” is

  • Confidently argue the truth about the existence of the Innate Intelligence, using scientific evidence

  • Communicate with the Innate Intelligence through muscle testing

  • Practically apply this knowledge through demonstration and live feedback

  • Determine the difference between a “base” and “compensatory” subluxation

An introduction to the philosophy of science:

Much of the debate between biomedicine and chiropractic and within chiropractic degenerates into little more than labelling and name calling. All sides no doubt feel they are correct. This lecture is an introduction to the philosophy of science. It starts with a discussion of what is the meaning of metaphysics. It then addresses the methods of collecting knowledge and, how from these, paradigms (e.g. biomedicine or traditional chiropractic) are developed. Looking at Thomas Kuhn’s normal and radical science and how paradigms are tested he will explain why they are eventually either radically transformed or replaced.

Objective –

To leave the participants with a strong enough grounding in the philosophy of science such that they can confidently go beneath hackneyed arguments such as “there needs to be a double blinded clinical trial” to be able to promote what is the real meaning of truth and what the limits of a specific methodology are. Participants will be able to argue why different clinical approaches require difference research methodologies.

The History and Philosophic Bases for Biomedicine and Traditional Chiropractic:

By understanding where biomedicine comes from and its underlying metaphysical assumptions participants will be able to argue its limits and why its research methods are not applicable to a holistic treatment approaches found in many Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMs), including chiropractic. Traditional chiropractic is also in need of reconstruction. Palmer’s original ideas, now over 100 years since their publication, still have a central core of defendable truth but to do so credibly requires that some of the deducted ideas and some of Palmer’s original claims need to be abandoned as indefensible.

Objective –

1) To leave the participants confident in arguing their position that the current dominant medical paradigm can only provide crisis intervention or focus on symptom suppression and cannot promote health.

2) To set the stage for arguing that the Chiropractic model of an unconsciously intelligently controlled total person is a better model for health and needs a different research approach to explore its details.

The Case for Innate Intelligence.

Central to Palmer’s ideas is that the body unconsciously but intelligently controls all aspects of health. While one hundred years ago he could only base this on his observations (empirical evidence covered in lecture one) today there are many recognised phenomena which better fit Palmer’s view than the dis-integrated biomedical model. Further, basic research in the clinical sciences reveals the intricacies and degree of integration of the human body providing evidence for the presence of a supervening integrative intelligence. I will look at this evidence and identify a number of phenomena that cannot be explained under the biomedical model. This lecture builds on the previous two to make the case for Innate Intelligence as the logical explanation for what is emerging from contemporary research. The lecture finishes with some thoughts about how to communicate with this unconscious part of the patient to better direct treatment and avoid unforeseen consequences.

Objective –

1) Participants will not just believe in Innate Intelligence as a central theme that “true chiropractors” accept as a matter of faith but rather will be able to argue to others that its reality is strongly justified by scientific evidence.

2) I will put forward an argument that not only does innate Intelligence exist but that it is possible to communicate with the body through the art of muscle testing.

The Practical Application:

I will demonstrate how to start with a symptom and work back through the body to find the underlying causes. The practitioners who participate will at the end of the workshop know how to determine the difference between a base subluxation and a compensatory subluxation. Merely locating a fixation is a bit hit and miss. You need to know if this fixation is causal or part of Innate Intelligence’s way of coping. I will demonstrate a technique for determining if you have left the patient with a viable compensation pattern that will avoid adverse reactions and provide a high probability of progress.
