Event description

Description

'Rebel Angel' is a play that gives you a first look into Keats’ young life, suitable for everyone from English Romantics, literature fanatics, children, adults to your local poetry club. This beautifully designed site-specific production takes its viewers on a journey of John Keats and his pursuit of self-discovery. The story unfolds in the well of the old theatre, while the audience sit or stand on the tiers originally occupied by the watching (and occasionally fainting) medical students.

Previously heard on BBC Radio 4, director/writer Angus Graham-Campbell has remade 'Rebel Angel' as a site-specific production expressly created to be experienced in the evocative and atmospheric ambience of the Old Operating Theatre at St Thomas's Hospital, London. Don't miss this extraordinary opportunity to share in a unique setting identical to one in which Keats worked and operated in during his time.

Schools Matinee performances take place on Wednesday 20th September, Wednesday 27th September and Wednesday 4th October. Evening performances start with previews from the 19th - 21st September followed by a two-week run until the 7th October and capacity is very limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Running time approximately 75 minutes (no interval).

This production also includes BSL performances on Thu 28 Sep and Fri 6 Oct. Please note that as a site-specific production you are not guaranteed a seat and acess is limilted. If you would like to or need to sit down then for your own comfort it is recommeded that you bring a cushion to place on the tiers. For more details on accessibility please contact info@oldoperatingtheatre.com

Rebel Angel is commissioned by The Keats Shelley Memorial Association and developed with support from Arts Council England and the Old Operating Theatre Museum in London.
