Rebellious Sounds Archive Launch - 14th February 2018 - from 2pm - Exeter Phoenix (Voodoo Lounge Dance Studio)

Dreadnought South West are delighted to invite you to the launch of our Rebellious Sounds Archive Listening Booth, a touring exhibition space that houses the oral histories of women's activism in the South West. Come and celebrate its creation and listen to its first stories, as well as learning more about the project.

Made possible by players of the National Lottery with funding awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Listening Booth is designed and built by Stand + Stare, and deliberately imitates the design of a voting booth to remind users that 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of some women being granted the vote. This change would not have been possible without the female suffrage activists, militant suffragettes and law-abiding suffragists who campaigned for women’s democratic rights over one hundred years ago. It is timely for a project like this to be able to look back into this rich heritage of women’s activism, whilst representing the diversity of women’s activism in the 20th/21st centuries through a contemporary collection. Put on a pair of headphones and choose a voting card to place in the slot; this will play your chosen story of women's activism.

Listening Booth

The Rebellious Sounds Archive will launch at Exeter Phoenix on the 14th of February, heading to Bath on the 23rd of February. From here, it will go on to venues in Cornwall, be part of Exeter Pride, head to M-Shed in Bristol, be part of Plymouth History Festival and then head to Chippenham. We are delighted to have been asked to exhibit the booth at Parliament in August 2018, after which the booth will come back to venues in the South West such as RAMM and Torquay Museum. There is still some availability for the booth to be hosted at other venues too.
