Description

REBUILDING OUR SCHOOLS FROM THE BOTTOM UP: a new narrative of change

Evening seminar and book launch

with Professor Michael Fielding, Fiona Carnie, Mike Davies, Mary Tasker and other contributors

  • How can schools develop a shared vision to create learning communities in which children and young people can flourish?
  • How can the voices of teachers, parents, young people and members of the local community be brought together to encourage reflection on core values and aspirations
  • What kind of world do we want to create and how can schools foster the attitudes, skills, knowledge and values to build that world?

These are critical questions for our time, questions that are unanswered by the unremitting focus on a narrow national curriculum and a rigid accountability framework. This approach is exerting undue pressure on children and teachers - to the detriment of all.

Join us at this free evening seminar to explore ways of shaping the future of our schools and building the confidence to act locally to bring about positive change. Drinks and light snacks will be served.

This event has been organised to mark the publication of Rebuilding our Schools from the Bottom up: listening to teachers, children and parents by Fiona Carnie (Routledge)

Thursday 1 February 2018, 17.15 - 19.30: UCL Institute of Education, Bedford Way, London WC1 (nearest tube Russell Square)
