The Recently Qualified Teacher (RQT) Programme aims to develop participants’ pedagogical skills as well as their leadership skills. In addition to focused key sessions, participants will also develop a network of peer support and establish professional relationships with colleagues from other schools.

Who this course is for:

Any teacher who is currently in their second or third year in teaching is welcome to participate.

What the programme involves:

The programme will run over three half-day and three twilight sessions from November 2017 to June 2018.

The next session will be:

Session 2 - The Inclusive Classroom

Head of Haxby Road ERP & Academy Specialist for SEND - Lesley Thompson

Half-day session - 18 January 2018 - 1.00-4.30pm

  • Maintaining an inclusive learning environment
  • Teaching for effective differentiation and managing SEND

Session 3 - Challenging Conversations

Senior HR Advisor for NYCC - Susan McGinn

Half-day session - 6 February 2018 - 1.00-4:30pm

  • Creating a positive environment to engage individuals in solution focused discussion
  • Develop your knowledge and skill in delivering a structured and effective conversation
  • Prepare for your next challenging conversation

Session 4 - Behaviour and Resilience

Ebor Academy Specialist for Restorative Practice and Behaviour - Rebecca McGuinn

Twilight session 14 March - 4.00-5.30pm

  • Reflective practice around the current behaviour and wellbeing strategies

Session 5 - Effective use of data to improve pupil outcomes

Ebor Academy Trust Exectutive Headteacher Gail Brown

Twilight session 26 April 2018 - 4.00-5.30pm

  • Understanding and using data to plan for progress
  • Exploring school internal data and national data to support progress and attainment

Session 6 - Developing Leadership Skills

Director of Postgraduate Initial Teacher Education - Keither Parker

Half-day session - 14 June 2018 - 1.00-4.30pm

  • Exploring opportunities to develop leadership skills
  • Leadership styles and career developments

The following sessions have already taken place:

Session 1 - Embedding and further developing practice - sustaining excellent teaching and pupil progress

Academy Specialist - Shan Brough-Jones, Ebor Academy Specialist for School Improvement

Twilight session 29 November 2017 - 4.00-5.30pm

  • Explore key principles underpinning good practice in the classroom to meet the needs of a range of learners in an engaging and creative way
  • Plan an opportunity to team teach with an academy specialist with a key focus, such as active and collaborative learning


All sessions will be held at Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy, West End, Strensall, YO32 5UH


Non Ebor Schools - £150 for all 6 sessions Non Ebor Schools - £30 per individual session

Ebor Schools - £130 for all 6 sessions Ebor Schools - £25 per individual session


Payment can be made by credit/debit card/cheque/invoice

Parking available but very restricted

Please note that in the event of a cancellation the following terms will be applied: Cancellation within two weeks of the event: 50% charge; cancellation within 48 hrs of the event or no show: 100% charge. If delegates do not attend all sessions, your school will still be charged the full amount.
