Now...some Firewalk FAQs

What exactly is the ‘Honu Firewalks’ experience?

A dramatically transformational, life changing experience! While participants attend the pre firewalk workshop, the fire team builds a fire. When the fire has burnt to red hot embers it is then raked level and prepared for the walk. Having trained the mind to achieve the seemingly impossible, participants will go to the fire, remove their footwear and one by one, they are invited to walk the coals. When you safely walk the hot coals, you face and conquer what your mind tells you is impossible. No tricks, no special effects, just you and the fire.

How hot are the coals?

The temperature of the coals can be as hot as 1200 degrees Fahrenheit (car engine blocks cast at 1100 degrees).

How long is the firewalk?

The firewalk is between 8 and 12 feet dependent on the weather conditions which dictate how the fire burns.

Is the Firewalk safe?

This is not something that you should try at home, Marcia Ody and Emma Bennett are Success Formulae and Firewalking Centre Certified Firewalking Instructors and they will take every step to ensure your safety. There is an inherent risk in any involvement with fire, it is important that the participants pay attention to all training, advice and instruction of the trainers.

Who can walk on Fire?

Anyone can walk on fire providing they feel they can. For this event you must be over 18 years old and able to walk independently.

If you have any medical conditions that may affect healing wounds you may wish to seek professional medical advice before engaging in the firewalk.

Participants must not have consumed alcohol or drugs during the day of the walk.

You make it sound very easy, is it really easy?

YES it actually is, you don’t have to meditate on a mountain top to firewalk in safety! It is simply that most people are unaware of the enormous power that they have internally. It is a truly unique experience, exciting and a lot of fun. The pre firewalk workshop will give you the opportunity to walk over broken glass unharmed and to break arrows with intention with your throat. Or if you choose to you can just watch and be amazed. All the activities and discussions prepare you for the mind-set required for the walk.

Is it a Trick?

No. The fire is very real, the embers will be glowing red hot, you will have bare feet and they will not have been treated in any way.

Will it hurt?

The sensation is described by some as walking on eggshells, others have described it as walking on hot sand. Each walker has their own experience, I have not known any walkers to experience pain, indeed when the opportunity arises many will walk the coals more than once.

How should I prepare?

There is no preparation to undertake, no treatment of the feet or mental exercise, just the training provided at the pre firewalk workshop. You should abstain from the consumption of alcohol and drugs prior to the event. Any person who is in the opinion of the trainer unfit to participate will not be permitted to take part.

How fit do I need to be?

There is no strenuous physical exercise involved; if you can walk normally you should manage the firewalk perfectly.

What should I wear?

There is no special clothing required, casual and comfortable clothes are best, many prefer to walk in shorts. Please remember fires can be quite dirty and smelly.
