Reciprocal Reading
Reciprocal reading is a structured and active approach to teaching strategies (questioning, clarifying, summarising and predicting) that children and young people can use to improve their reading comprehension.
It is typically guided and discussion-based, helping them to become more confident readers who can understand and make sense of what they are reading.
This intervention is Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) recommended and is suitable for KS2 and KS3 students who can:
- decode but struggle to comprehend texts
- those who read slowly or too quickly
- students who have limited vocabularies
- children and young people who lack confidence when reading unfamiliar texts.
This session is available to all school staff but is likely to be most useful to members of staff who will utilise this approach most e.g. Teachers, Teaching Assistants or intervention teachers.
Cost of this course includes:
- Spaces for up to two members of staff from the same school
- One follow up session to support implementation (online)*
*This could be for troubleshooting and/or action planning depending on the needs of the school.
Please note this course is for staff members who work in West Northamptonshire settings only.
