Recognising and Responding to Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse

Are you looking to increase your understanding of the underlying reasons why a perpetrator may use abusive behaviours? Are you hoping to gain confidence in engaging with perpetrators which ensures best practice? This full-day course will help you build up a toolkit of information and strategies to use in your workplace and everyday life.


What will you learn?

This session provides guidance on how to:

  • Build a safe alliance with a perpetrator of abuse, effectively building sufficient rapport to gain information crucial for possible behavioural change intervention.
  • Use Equation’s counter allegations tool to get closer to identifying a primary perpetrator.
  • Use Equation’s Perpetrator Assessment Tool to explore abusive behaviours with perpetrators in a therapeutic manner.
  • Explore possible underlying issues related to domestic abuse.
  • Identify risk factors when working with perpetrators and have knowledge of safer practice.
  • Identify possible indicators of positive change in perpetrators of abuse.
  • Complete an in depth referral to a voluntary Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme (DVPP).


Who should sign up?

  • Anyone who has some knowledge of Domestic Abuse, who has preferably already attended Equation’s Understanding Domestic Violence & Abuse (URDVA) training.
  • Individuals in professional roles who come into direct contact with perpetrators of Domestic Abuse.
  • New team members and colleagues of experienced practitioners.
  • Commissioners, managers and strategists who need to develop team responses.

During the session, specific reference is made to different types of domestic abuse. Support is available if you are impacted by any content of the session.

Our trainers here at Equation, have an extensive background working with both perpetrators and survivors of domestic abuse in a range of specialist provisions


Cancellation

PLEASE NOTE: : This training is being held face to face. Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you cannot attend the training.

If you are unable to attend due to sickness on the day please inform us by email. We are also able to accept an alternative delegate in your place - their name will need to be provided before the start of the session by email to training@equation.org.uk.

Failure to attend without notice will be classed as no show. Your manager will be notified of your absence.

Please be aware: due to the conditions of our funding, this training is free to people working in Nottingham City and County – chargeable outside of these areas.

We are monitoring the attendance list and you will be asked to pay if you do not qualify for a free ticket.
