Recognising & Responding to Pet Abuse as a Tactic of Coercive Control

Are you a professional working with individuals and families at risk of domestic abuse? Join the Centre for Animal Inclusive Practice (Maya Badham) and KCC's Suicide Prevention team (Tim Woodhouse)for a one-of-a-kind training event and discover how the human-animal bond is exploited by perpetrators of abuse and violence - and why recognising this is crucial for a truly holistic whole family and whole systems response to domestic and sexual abuse.

This unique training offer will equip you with the knowledge and practical tools to:

  • Identify companion animal abuse as a tactic of coercive control.
  • Understand how animal abuse intersects with risk of serious harm and domestic homicide.
  • Reduce dog bite risk for professionals entering homes where abuse of children, adults and/or animals is suspected or known
  • Understand why embedding an animal-inclusive safeguarding approach is essential into a whole family, whole systems approach to protecting survivors, regardless of species.

Ideal for professionals across domestic abuse services, social care, policing, housing, mental health, veterinary fields, and more... all are welcome.

There are only 20 spots available so please book early.
