Upcycling Your Tote Bag Workshop

Layla Tully, artist and workshop facilitator will demonstrate a range of techniques and materials that you can explore to create the bag of your dreams for yourself or a gift for someone else. All materials will be provided, and no previous art or sewing experience is necessary. You will be provided an unused organic, fairtrade cotton tote bag donated from another project.

Magnetic Ideals are excited to announce this workshop as part of a free training and skills sessions programme to develop new skills and help build community through creativity and confidence building. The programme is here to help you Reconnect with your life and purpose, and we look forward to sharing this journey with you!

The workshop will take place in the The Rockets Studio Unit 17, the Open Market. 11am-1pm, and the space is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet available. We aim to make our sessions as accessible as possible and are happy to talk you through the possibilities and limitations of the spaces and activities. If you have any questions or requirements around accessibility, please email the facilitator @ laylahtully@gmail.com

This workshop is suitable for children if they are accompanied by a responsible adult only – we do not provide childcare/drop-off.

We kindly ask for a £5 returnable deposit when booking a space in our workshop. This helps reduce the risk of non-attendance at workshops. To allow for comfort and space in the venues, our workshops are capped to a certain capacity, when many people sign up, we often have extra people requesting to attend, but sadly don't have space for them.

A deposit system enables us to create a buzzing workshop experience, however if you can't make it, if you contact us within 3 hours of the workshop starting time we will offer your space to someone on the reserve list and refund your deposit.

Once you attend the workshop you deposit will be refunded back to you.

If you would like to attend a workshop and the deposit is a barrier, please contact us, and we will ensure you can still attend.

We look forward to seeing you at our workshops!

We would like to say a huge thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund for making this project possible! Learn more about the Reconnect! project here

We run projects that use creative and artistic ways of bringing communities together to create social change, campaign for social justice and find ways of locally and nationally challenging the climate crisis. Regarding activist work, we have provided specialist consulting and training for Students’ Unions and Research Students, and other campaigning bodies, including coaching, setting up student-led research teams, officer training, campaign support, events management, research and analysis, and running workshops for activists on collective care.
