This is what one of our Doctoral Students are saying about her experience being a mentor:
"Peer mentoring is about mutual development and is a developmental partnership by sharing your own knowledge and perspectives. Fostering someone's growth is a very meaningful act. But at the same time, it also helps you understand yourself more in various ways. You will be able to use your own experience to support other peers and grow together, and gain experience in mentoring which could be beneficial to your CV and your future work. It can also provide you with a great network of possible future colleagues or gain you a lasting friendship! - by Cindy Yee-Ni "
"The mentorship programme is a great way to assists more junior students in their university journey. By doing this, together we can learn from each other’s experience and identify ways to move forward and make the university life more predictable and enjoyable. I as a mentor, I feel more involved in the university community. Along with developing some great skills, we have been having meaningful conversations. - by Emine Pehlivan"
"By participating in the DC mentor-mentee scheme, I've learned the importance of understanding my mentees' expectations, being able to provide empathetic advice and clear logistics for meetings, which are essential to set a concrete foundation for successful sessions and truly help your mentees. On the other hand, the role also offers me the opportunity to see things from mentors' perspectives, which enables me to have a holistic view of mentoring and supervision. So far, we all enjoy our support group, connect with each other, and feel part of this research group "community" which I believe is an extremely important element to support our wellbeing as doctoral students. - by Cassie Zhang"
