Do you struggle to recruit good quality employees?

Many employers are competing in a tightening labour market at a time when the UK is suffering from a chronic skills shortage. More than 10 million people in the UK (equivalent to around 20% of the workforce) hold a criminal record, and the majority of these are for relatively minor offences. Now, more than ever, we need to address all unnecessary barriers that may prevent businesses accessing this untapped resource.

However, many organisations lack the confidence and tools to access this vast pool of potential talent. Some struggle to understand the recent changes to the complex legislation that governs the disclosure of criminal records and need practical guidance, expert advice, support and training in this complicated area. 

What is the solution?

In response, Nacro, one of the UK’s leading social justice charities is delivering a free one-day course on safer recruitment (usual cost of £229 per delegate). This is aimed at HR professionals who work for organisations in Greater Manchester, and will give delegates the legal knowledge and practical skills to get it right.

Delivered by our legal officers, this interactive course will cover the main aspects of recruiting safely and fairly, with particular focus on dealing with criminal record disclosure or allegation information and conducting risk assessments on applicants or existing staff who have criminal records.

This unique opportunity, hosted by leading global law firm Freshfields, is provided as part of the Aeneid Project, our year-long employer-focused initiative. The project supports employers in the city to recruit and retain skilled staff at the same time as providing opportunities for people looking to turn their lives around and positively contribute to the local community.

HR professionals in Greater Manchester with responsibility for recruitment, retention and equality and diversity matters, as well as those responsible for safeguarding and in-house legal counsel.
