Event description

Description

This is a one-day course identifying the key principles of attracting and recruiting appropriate long-term volunteers.

What will I be trained on?

The advert: Identify how to advertise for volunteers from simple, inexpensive methods to a more targeted approach depending on the type of volunteer you are trying to attract. Recognise easy pitfalls often made and key elements to attract interest and get people excited to not only volunteer, but to want to volunteer with you.

The description: Does your volunteer role description inspire a possible applicant by allowing them to clearly identify what is required, plus what you and they will get out of it. Create an eye-catching Role Description that makes people zero-in on your post.

The route: Explore where to advertise for volunteers and how simply it can be achieved using some smart thinking (quick wins). Recruiting doesn’t need to take masses of time but it does need a considered and co-ordinated approach dependent on your charity’s size, resources available and type of volunteer activity.

The interview: You’ve got someone interested and in the room, now make sure that the interview gives you and them the confidence they can do the role.

Anything else? Throughout the day you’ll be able to ask questions, compare your experience with others, and get hands on with putting what you’ve learnt into practice. You’ll be able to put forward the specific examples you are dealing with to get an advice that is more than just sound theory but is a set of action points you can put into practice when you return to the shop.

Who should attend?

If you are looking at how to increase the number of volunteers in your shop then this course is for you. Previous attendees have come from area manager, retail operation, shop manager, volunteer specific, marketing and similar role positions.

When does it run till?

Each course will run from 10am until 4.30pm, with registration from 9.30am. Lunch and refreshments are included with every booking.

You can attend a one day training course for only £125 + VAT, with an expert trainer and a small group of delegates.

We are also able to offer a small number of bursary places on the course reducing the ticket price to £62.50 plus VAT. These places are aimed at charities who have five or fewer charity shops.

Non-Members of the Charity Retail Association:

We also have non-member rates for attending the training. Please contact us for further details.

Numbers are very limited for this day in order to ensure attendees get the most out of the training, and therefore we advise members to book early to avoid disappointment. Charities can register multiple delegates should they wish.

Catering changes in 2020

In our efforts to go green, all Charity Retail Association events will be 100% vegetarian-catered by default. You are still very welcome to opt for a meat/fish-option so please make sure this is noted in the dietary requirements section when booking, alongside any other dietary requirements you may have.

Payment: Should you wish to be invoiced, please change the payment method to 'Pay by Invoice'.

Cancellation Policy: Details of our Cancellation Policy for all training, networking events and conference can be viewed here.

If you have any questions, please contact Alex Angelakis at alex@charityretail.org.uk or call the team on 0300 030 1088.
