Event description

Description

This course embraces the resurgence of recycled/vintage clothing and the ‘make do and mend ' culture our environment requires. Charity shops are full of fabulous affordable garments which are waiting to be restyled and updated. Students can bring garments for restyling, repurposing, resizing and repairs. Use fabric from one garment to make another - make a pair of trousers into a funky bag or create a personally fitted garment from a fabulous vintage find.

After an initial design session students will be supported in planning their sewing project. Novices will be tutored in basic machine and hand sewing techniques. More experienced students will be given guidance on design and construction. We will explore using and adapting patterns, and ideas for decorative embroidery and embellishments.

Students must provide own sewing machine (with instruction book if never used before!), materials/garments, plus basic sewing equipment (e.g. scissors: 1 large and 1 small & pointed, a tape measure, pins, thread).

The tutor will provide an iron & board and a basic kit of haberdashery.

Days: 8 Tuesday mornings
Times: 11:00 - 13:00
