The Red On Backyard Ultra is a unique test of endurance held within the military camp of Altcar, Liverpool. Following the backyard ultra format, runners must complete a 6.706 km (4.167 mi) loop every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains. With no set finish line, the event pushes competitors to their absolute limits of physical and mental resilience.

Yes, the course is fully marked and marshalled to ensure runners stay on track throughout the event.
There is no set end time. The race continues as long as multiple runners can complete each loop within the 1-hour time limit.
If you fail to complete a loop within the allotted hour, you are eliminated from the race and marked as "DNF" (Did Not Finish).
Yes! Any time remaining after completing a loop can be used for rest, eating, or recovery. However, all runners must be at the start line for the next loop when the hour begins.
Runners must be largely self-sufficient, but you will be provided a marked out, designated base area where you can store and access your own food, drinks, and gear between loops. Food venders and drinks venders will be in the admin area.
Yes! Crews are allowed to assist runners between loops in the designated rest area. However, they cannot run with you or provide assistance on the course.
Recommended gear includes but is not limited to: Running kit suited for varying weather conditions Nutrition & hydration for extended endurance efforts Headlamp & spare batteries (for night running) Camping gear or chair for rest breaks Extra socks, shoes, and warm clothing
There will be escorted exits from the camp every 3 hours. If you wish to leave the event you must leave with one of the escorts. This will be communicated on the day.
