THE RED TEAM THINKING 2-DAY WORKSHOP

Red Team Thinking ®

Developed by the military and intelligence agencies after 9/11, red teaming is a set of tools and techniques designed to help organizations stress-test their strategies, challenge their assumptions, and make better decisions in a complex and rapidly changing world. The red teaming arsenal also includes methods for getting at the hard truths that reside inside every group — truths you need to hear if you want to stay ahead of your competition.

Based on the latest research into the science of human decision making, red teaming is a systematic approach that helps individuals and organizations overcome groupthink, cognitive bias and other threats to good decision making.

At the same time, red teaming uses contrarian thinking and critical analysis surface alternative perspectives, identify and evaluate unconsidered options, and ensure the best ideas are heard regardless of where they come from in the hierarchy.

Though it was developed by the military and intelligence agencies, red teaming works just as well for business. These are potent weapons you can use to attack groupthink and complacency head-on, before your competitors turn those weaknesses to their advantage.

That is why we created Red Team Thinking®, a hybrid approach designed to port these tools and techniques to companies and other organizations that want to leverage this revolutionary approach to solve complex problems, stress-test strategies and make better business decisions.

Red Team Thinking® helps you think differently about your business and see how customers, competitors, and other key constituencies will react to moves you make in the marketplace — before you make them. Red teaming can also show you how to turn disruptive events to your advantage.

Red Team Thinking® is how you stay relevant, keep ahead of your competition, and cope with an increasingly complex and uncertain world.

What You Will Learn

Every Red Team Thinking Workshop begins with a brief introduction to red teaming, as well as the science and psychology behind this revolutionary methodology. You will learn about the cognitive biases that cloud our individual thinking and the organizational threats to sound decision making. More importantly, you will learn how to overcome them using three powerful red teaming tools:

Assumptions Challenge™ - Learn how to identify and challenge stated and unstated assumptions.

Pre-Mortem - Dare to contemplate failure in order to ensure success.

Devil’s Troika™ - Play the devil’s advocate and use contrarian thinking to improve your plan.

In addition, you will learn other valuable red teaming tools, including liberating structures that will help foster more frank and open communications in your organization, and five strategic questions every planner should answer before creating a new strategy.

Methodology

This two-day workshop is designed to introduce individuals to Red Team Thinking and provide them with tools they can begin using right away to make better decisions. While formal red teaming requires a group of trained analysts to evaluate complex strategies, these Red Team Thinking techniques can be used by both individuals and teams to challenge their assumptions, pressure-test their plans and make better decisions. This is hands-on training focused on the real-world challenges and opportunities that your business is dealing with right now. You will not only learn how to use these game-changing techniques, but also gain actionable insights you can use today. Each day typically consist of two, three-hour sessions with a lunch break in between. We can accommodate up to 30 participants.
