The Forensic Psychology Unit at Goldsmiths University welcomes Erwin James to take us on a journey through his life in prison, his experience with a prison psychologist and life after release. Erwin was convicted of murder in 1984 after a troubled childhood and spent 20 years in prison. He became a writer whilst serving his sentence and today he is a Guardian columnist and Editor in Chief of Inside Time, the national newspaper for people in prison. He has also written for many national titles including the Observer, Radio Times, New Humanist and the Big Issue. He is the author of three books: A Life Inside – A Prisoners Notebook, (Atlantic, 2003), The Home Stretch - From Prison to Parole, (Atlantic, 2005) and Redeemable – a Memoir of Darkness and Hope (Bloomsbury, Feb 2016). He is also a trustee of the Prison Reform Trust and a patron of the charities: Create, Blue Sky, Human Writes, the Writers in Prison Foundation, and the Prison Phoenix Trust. He is a Fellow of the RSA and an Honorary Master of the Open University.

The talk will last approximately one hour including time for questions and answers, which will be followed by a book signing. These books will be available for sale at the event.
