Redeeming Piccadilly Gardens with Shane Claiborne
Event Information
Description
Piccadilly Gardens is described by VisitManchester as the gateway to the city located in the heart and soul of the city centre. Sadly, the space is also one of the UK's worst crime hot-spots and in recent years has increasingly become a popular location for rallies of neo-nazi and far-right hate speech. Join with Shane Claiborne in an afternoon of Christian activism as we seek to gather, pray, and tangibly redeem the space as the hub that welcomes ALL at the centre of our great city.
As well as public presentations from Shane, he will be joined by some local activists too. Scattered nearby will be stations inviting people to reflect/pray/lament on behalf of the city; contribute to conversations around live topics such as homelessness, addiction, hate crime and climate change; hear stories about the ways people and groups are reshaping knives and guns into jewellery, sculptures and garden tools up and down the country; and have an opportunity 'break bread' with others in a meal that is hugely symbolic of love and unity.
