About this event

Science & Tech • Science

Mexico is home to an extraordinary diversity of plants and traditional crops. This student seminar focuses on chayote (Sechium edule), a species still relevant in traditional food systems and today produced and exported worldwide.

Despite its importance, the domestication and evolutionary history of chayote remain poorly understood. Our speaker, Cécile Truchot Taillefer (Instituto de Ecología, UNAM), will present research on the genetic diversity and conservation of chayote and its wild relatives, highlighting their potential for food security, sustainability, and biocultural resilience.

This event is part of the Student Seminar Series | UNAM-UK, organised by the Centro de Estudios Mexicanos UNAM-UK in collaboration with the Mexican Society of Students in the UK (MexSocUK).

📅 Date: 23 September 2025
🕙 Time: 10:00 h (Mexico) | 17:00 h (London)
