Event Information
Description
The huge growth of ‘Fast Fashion’ - the reproduction of highly fashionable clothes at high speed and low cost, which is often only worn a few times and then ends up in landfill, has profound human and environmental consequences.
To raise awareness of this, Lichfield Diocese will be turning St Peter’s Church into a catwalk.
The evening will include a fashion show, where people will model clothes from local charity shops along with a market-place and clothes swap, spoken word pieces and bible readings.
Your entry price includes drinks and nibbles. Any profits from the evening will go to Hope at Home, who support UK victims of Modern Slavery.
Please bring with you an item of clothing to swap with others. Any left over clothes will be dontaed to Warm Welcome and Good Shepherd.
This event is part of a wider Re:Dress project in the Diocese to raise awareness of the human and environmental cost of the fast fashion and textile industry and part of our wider Modern Slavery work.
An estimated 100 billion garments are manufactured every year, often overseas in factories with poorer working conditions and production that can lead to pollution, a drain on natural resources, modern slavery and mountains of unwanted clothes heading to landfill.
Lindsey Hall, Director of Vocations, said: “We’re really looking forward to February’s event which will involve the local community in fun and creative ways, give people the chance to swap unwanted clothes and provide real food for thought.
“Re:Dress explores care for our neighbour and responsible consumerism as a way of thinking about what it means to be followers of Christ in everyday life, in the clothes we buy and wear and in our awareness of the plight of brothers and sisters around the world.”
