Event description

Course overview

The course starts with the propagation of seismic waves and the concept of the seismic wavelet in time and frequency domains. It moves on to the process of reflection, data acquisition, CMP stacking, the measurement of velocity and post-stack migration. Some important principles of data processing are explored. The advantages of pre-stack migration in time and in depth are covered. Refining reservoir architecture from reflection seismic data is discussed followed by the seismic contribution to mapping reservoir properties and recent developments in acquiring broadband seismic data.

The course is designed for

  • Geologists
  • Geophysicists
  • Drilling engineers
  • Reservoir engineers

Learning objectives

  • To learn the various steps of reflection seismic survey necessary to obtain subsurface structure
  • To obtain an overview of how reflection seismic surveys can elucidate reservoir properties
