The Leonard Cheshire Disability Inclusive Development Centre are pleased to announce that globally renowned disability rights activist Judy Heumann will be presenting the Inaugural Leonard Cheshire Disability-UCL Lecture on Thursday March 15th, at 5:00-7:00 pm.
Judy has recently been appointed a Global Ambassador for Leonard Cheshire Disability as part of her long term campaign for equality and human rights.
An internationally recognized leader in the disability community, Heumann is a lifelong civil rights advocate for people with disabilities. A key member in the establishment of the US Independent Living Movement in the 1970s, Judy Heumann went to serve as Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitation in the Clinton Administration, and the World Bank's first Advisor on Disability and Development. In 2010 she joined the Obama administration as Special Advisor on Disability Rights for the US State Department. She is now a Senior Fellow at the Ford Foundation.
Join us at the Leonard Cheshire Disability and Inclusive Development Centre at UCL as Judy reflects on the disability rights movement, her life as an activist, and where she thinks the movement should go next. Ms Heumann will show a short documentary to be followed by a Q&A style discussion with Professor Nora Groce on her life as a disability activist and the future of disability rights.
This event will have BSL Interpretation and a wheelchair accessible venue. If you have any questions regarding accessibility or require additional access please email Emma Bird on emma.bird@ucl.ac.uk
