The aim of the session will be to provide an insight following my visit to the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Statistics New Zealand, which took place at the end of June. During this time there were some prominent themes that emerged, which I would like to share and expand further upon. In New Zealand the main focus of discussion was on the integration and use of administrative data. In Australia, while administrative data came up a lot, the predominant theme was the challenges facing economic statistics, and the ABS arranged a series of meetings on the Bean Review, productivity and measuring the digital economy. Both organisations are conducting transformations and it was fascinating to see how they recognise similar challenges to us in the UK, and how they have gone about responding to them.
This is an internal ONS only event.
