Refresher: specialist safeguarding for designated lead in ELT (formerly level 3)

As an experienced DSL for your centre, you will be aware that you need to refresh your training every 2 years. This session is tailored for you if you have been working as a DSL for several years and require a refresher course that will allow you to review your understanding of the role, discuss with other long standing DSLs the issues that they have encountered during their time as a DSL and bring you up to date with any legislation changes.

What does it cover?

• Review and reflection of the role and responsibilities of the DSL
• Legislation and guidance updates
• Maintaining a safer school – ongoing development of better safeguarding practices
• Review of working with LSCPs
• Safeguarding policy updates
• Raising awareness and training for stakeholders
• Internet safety
• Prevent requirements against terrorism (for all ages)

Learning outcomes

• Reflection of your role as a DSL
• Practical suggestions on how to meet responsibilities successfully
• Certificate stating you have been trained in Specialist Safeguarding for the Designated Lead

This session will be delivered on Zoom as an online tutorial. You will be sent the links the day before the training.

Safeguarding legislation and terminology differs in each of the countries of the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). The focus of the training will be on legislation and terminology in England. Delegates from Scotland are advised that safeguarding provision there differs substantially and separate training is available from English UK.

Cancellation

English UK will not refund fees if the delegate cancels less than 10 days before the training although a substitute may be sent with prior notice.
