20th May 2025 Session 2: Therapy for Cleft Palate Speech, VPD and Active Nasal Fricatives


This training is aimed at increasing your confidence and skill in relation to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of cleft related speech difficulties and features of velopharyngeal dysfunction for speech.


Target Audience

Open to SLTs working within our region (South London Boroughs and Kent, Sussex and Surrey)


The training will include the following:

- The South Thames Cleft Service - Overview of professionals within the team, the service we provide, surgical and speech therapy protocols, referral pathways, liaison with community teams.

- Diagnosis and treatment of cleft palate/velopharyngeal insufficiency

- Diagnosis of submucous cleft palate

- Examples of cleft speech characteristics

- Examples of resonance and airflow issues

- Active nasal fricatives - diagnosis and therapy

- Therapy techniques for children with cleft palate or velopharyngeal dysfunction

Fees

Free for internal Guy's and St Thomas' (GSTT) Staff

£30.00 for NHS Staff outside of GSTT, or £50.00 for both sessions.

£50.00 for Independent staff who do not work for the NHS, or £80.00 for both sessions
