A Cambridge Society of London Walk on Friday 5th May. The walk, with morning (11am) and evening (6:30pm) alternatives, is designed to offer members flexibility.
A guided walk led by Lester Hillman (St Catharine's 1970) an accredited guide and academic adviser to a number of local organisations.
The walk will uncover links to the assassination in 1812 of Spencer Perceval, Cambridge alumnus and Prime Minister. It will explore the December 1816 Spa Field Riot, a bicentenary recently marked. The walk takes place on the 199th anniversary of the birth of Karl Marx, (the Marx Library is on the route) and there are clues in the streetscape to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and back seven centuries to Wat Tyler's revolt in 1381.
20 persons maximum per walk, all down hill.
Meet Angel tube station finish Smithfield convenient for public transport and refreshments.
As last year two alternative times are being offered: the Morning Walk starting at 11am, and the Early Evening Walk with members meeting at 6.30pm. For each walk allow about ninety minutes (to two hours).
Numbers are limited to 20 persons for each walk. Tickets are £8 for members or one guest per attending member at £10. All proceeds will support the Society.
