6.30 pm Film Screening: The Harder They Come (15)
This classic Jamaican film from 1972 is widely credited with bringing reggae to the world and being the best reggae film ever made.
Starring Jimmy Cliff, it is the story of Ivanhoe Martin, a poor man living in rural Jamaica who moves to Kingston but faces poverty, exploitation and corruption. Seeking fame and fortune as a singer, he is constantly blocked by a corrupt music industry and turns to a life of crime, where he finally gains the fame and notoriety he desires. But is there a price to pay…?
With the best soundtrack of any movie, including Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekker, The Maytals and others, this is a must-see film.
8.15 – 10.30 pm:
After the film, the bar and food stall will remain open and Fraser will be playing records from his extensive collection of 45’s from the era. This will be a chance to dance and let your hair down to some of the best music ever recorded.
