Event description
RCOT is pleased to offer a series of free regional workshops for occupational therapists working in perinatal mental health services.

About this Event

Improving access to high quality perinatal mental health care was highlighted as a priority in the NHS Long Term Plan and has been supported by significant investment in services. Recognising the rapid expansion of the occupational therapy workforce in mother and baby units and community perinatal mental health teams, RCOT has been commissioned by Health Education England to develop a blended training programme to ensure occupational therapists have the skills and confidence to meet the occupational needs of mothers with mental health problems and their infants.

RCOT is pleased to offer a series of free regional workshops for occupational therapists working in perinatal mental health services. Workshops will include:

  • a Keynote Presentation by Tracey Robinson, Programme Manager for Perinatal Mental Health with NHS England and NHS Improvement and a survivor of post partum psychosis;
  • presentations by local occupational therapists; and
  • opportunities for professional development and networking.

Learning objectives:

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the context in which perinatal mental health services are commissioned and provided across England
  • Identify and explore the unique role and contribution of occupational therapy to perinatal mental health services
  • Hear examples of good practice from occupational therapists working in perinatal mental health
  • Identify opportunities for continuing professional development, evidence-based practice and networking.

Outline Programme:

The structure to the day is designed to be flexible. It will consist of presentations and group discussions which will be captured to share after the event.

The session will close by identifying and agreeing future actions to progress this work nationally.

Workshops will run from 9.30 – 4pm.

Should you require more information before applying, please contact Pinky Sidhpura on admin.practice@rcot.co.uk

Please note: this is a free event for occupational therapists currently working in perinatal mental health.

Closing date for bookings will be on 24th November 2019.
