What would YOU put in a giant tunnel under the Thames? Use your creativity & join us for a session to reimagine the Silvertown Road Tunnel

About this event

What would you put in a giant tunnel under the Thames? Use your creativity and join us for a breakfast session to reimagine the Silvertown Road Tunnel as a space for good, green, clean transport. (Or something else entirely!)

🚧 The Mayor of London has refused to cancel the Silvertown Road Tunnel, and now the digging machines are starting to dig.

⛔ You can’t reverse a giant tunnel boring machine – they have to go all the way through to the other side, so whatever happens next, we’re getting at least one new tunnel under the Thames.

💡 BUT, there are many better ways to use a tunnel like this than for a big, polluting road!

Green Assembly Member, Sian Berry, is hosting a day of workshops on 11 August 2022 to reimagine London's biggest infrastructure project and come up with better ideas, starting with a session exclusively for children and families.

Parents and guardians are invited to register for our practical and interactive morning workshop at the brand new City Hall. With your children, you’ll be able to use our scale model and materials to design better uses for the long, 12-metre wide space under the river.

Could it hold a new train or tram, become a vast cycling and walking space, or could it host the world's longest swimming lane, bat sanctuary, ice rink or adventure playground?

Let your imaginations run wild, with juice and breakfast snacks provided, plus coffee and tea for parents and guardians.

Register your interest below - a link to sign up to the event will follow, and places are very limited.

So, they are digging a tunnel - what shall we do with it? Will take place on the ground floor of new City Hall.

City Hall is a fully accessible building near the ExCeL Centre, you can reach it from the DLR station Royal Victoria (has lifts), Elizabeth Line Custom House (lifts and 15 minute walk), or the cable car (bikes free before 9.30am).
