Event description

Description

Hosted by the UK Space Agency at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, our Earth Observation Careers Day is a half-day event for Year 8-10 students and their teachers, followed by an afternoon for Year 12 students and their teachers. The objective will be to introduce students to the range of career opportunities there are using satellite data to monitor and manage our planet and the diverse careers and companies who carry out this work.

  • Morning session 09:45 - 12:30, Students in Years 8 and 10
  • Afternoon session 13:15 - 16:00, Students in Year 12

There will be a series of short talks from professionals at all stages of their career, and a carousel opportunity to learn about different opportunities and talk to a range of role models who can describe the range of subjects which have helped them in their work. The networking exhibition will include organisations based on the Harwell Campus (including the European Space Agency and the Satellite Applications Catapult) representing the public and private sectors.

This event will be of interest to those studying STEM subjects and also those with a scientific interest in physical geography and the environment.

Please note that this kind of event is often oversubscribed, so applying for tickets does not guarantee a place. Once registration closes on 6 November 2018, places will be allocated to schools on a random basis. All schools will be contacted and notified as to whether they have a place on 7 November 2018.

If you have any questions, please contact us at visitral@stfc.ac.uk.
