Event description

Description

Join us for a unique Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition, deep in the heart of Surrey.

We have some great things lined up for this event, so make sure you book your place early to avoid disapointment. Whilst no refunds are given, we do look at each case on it's own merit, and providing competitors contact us up to 3 weeks prior to the event, we may be able to transfer entrance fees to other competitors or transfer to alternative dates/events. In the unlikely event of a postponement, entrances will remain valid for the alternative date.

This competition is for over 16's only, male and female - ID will be required upon the day.

After completion of entry and payment on Eventbrite, you might receive an email from us in case we need to confirm details of your registration (including academy affliliation, weight and age division you wish to be in) so we can better manage your matches.

If there are not enough people in your chosen division you will be offered an alternative weight class or age bracket where appropriate. If no alternative is available then we will contact you to arrange either transfer of entrance or we may on this occassion only, refund your entrance.

If a refund is confirmed by our management team, this will happen within 5 business days.

RULES

DIVISION
Adult only, over 16s male and female, weight class available on entry form.

MATCH LENGTH

  • Blue and below 5min

  • Purple and above 7 min

In case of a draw at the end of the regular time, the competitors will have an Overtime round each, as described below

OVERTIME
The REI-GI BJJ COMPETITION utilizes ISOF/Eddie Bravo Invitational overtime rules. Any match whose regulation match time ends with a draw immediately moves into Overtime without break or time out unless deemed needed by referee. Any competitor who can not answer the call to immediately participate in the overtime round will be disqualified.
Overtime round consists of Athletes choosing specific Dead-zones (The back or Spiderweb) from which the athletes will attack and defend submissions. Each competitor will get a try to attack for a submission. The competitor who can secure the fastest submission in their attacking overtime round will be the victor. In case of no submissions, the fastest escape will define the victor.
The referee will decide a competitor to choose Offense or Defense with the toss of a coin.
The competitor who wins the toss can choose to be on defense or offense. In Overtime there are two positions or Dead Zones available to attack and defend from.

  1. Spiderweb or the Arm Bar position
Each position must have arms hooked, crook of elbow to crook of elbow. The opponent defending the position may have their arms in any defense configuration they desire. Below are samples of each position.

  2. Back Control with Seatbelt Grip
Competitors will begin in a seated back control position upright with both hooks and a seat belt grip. The opponent may have their hands in place on the seat belt grip and chin tucked before ref begins the round. Once round begins the body triangle may be applied but not before.

Submission Shootout
In OT the goal is submit your opponent as fast as possible or escape the dead zone position as fast as possible. Both opponents will have a chance to submit their opponent from a dead zone of their choosing or escape the deadzone their opponent chooses. The opponent who obtains a submission or the fastest submission in the Overtime round wins the match. Fighters will have 1 overtime round of 30 seconds each to achieve a submission.

JUMPING AND PULLING GUARD

Pulling Guard (all levels)
Pulling guard is exactly like it sounds. You are pulling your opponent down to the ground into your guard with at least one foot on the ground. Pulling guard requires one opponent to make contact with the other. A grip must be established on either a sleeve, collar, head, gi top or any part of the competitor prior to pulling their opponent down to the ground into their guard. Sitting to the guard is not permitted. Butt scooting is not permitted. You must attempt to take your opponent to the ground or pull them to the ground. Once contact or grip is initiated you may pull guard. Jumping Guard is illegal for levels.

Slamming
Slamming is not permitted however the slam is respected. If an opponent is lifted into the air above the waist line for a period of 5 seconds the competitors will be reset in a neutral standing position. EX: Opponent A. is caught in a triangle and lifts opponent B. into the air and keeps the opponents full body above his waist line for 5 seconds the match will reset. However, if opponent B drops reaches for the leg and/or his upper body is hanging or touching the ground the match is still active.

GI REQUIREMENTS
Standard Gi/Kimono's of any color are permitted. Belt worn must be of the competitors earned rank. Uniforms must be free of any holes or tears and securely fastened. The use of thong-type undergarments is not permitted; only brief-type undergarments may be worn. No Cups are permitted.
The GI top should reach the athlete’s thigh and the sleeves should come to where a wrist watch would sit on an athlete’s wrist when the arm is extended straight parallel to the ground.
GI pants should reach to slightly above the Ankle bone. Under the gi top competitors may wear rash guards, however t-shirts are not permitted. Females are required to wear a rash guard type top underneath their Gi top.
