About this event
Your Path, Your Terms
In this transformative experience, you'll gain the tools and confidence to actively shape your research career journey, addressing the key challenges researchers face today. We'll explore strategies for navigating career transitions—whether you're moving from academia to elsewhere, elsewhere to academia, or seeking progression within your current path.
This mini-course is co-hosted by Dr Janet Salmons (When the Field Is Online) and Dr Eleanor Pritchard (PhD Progress Weekly). And from 15th May, you can find us together at Reimagine Research, thinking about all things research career related for social researchers!
Over the course of a month (see logistics details in bold below), you'll discover how to articulate your unique skills and translate your research expertise across different contexts, aligning your professional journey with your personal values and any practitioner or activism interests. We'll examine practical approaches to funding challenges, from securing independent research support to navigating periods between institutional backing.
The programme addresses maintaining research momentum and scholarly identity, including publishing pathways, protecting your intellectual property, and sustaining your research practice outside traditional academic structures. We'll tackle employment concerns by exploring diverse opportunities that match your specific qualifications and circumstances, including part-time and flexible work arrangements.
Throughout, you'll build connections with a supportive community of peers facing similar challenges, creating a network that extends beyond our time together. You'll develop personalised strategies to overcome common obstacles like impostor syndrome and decision paralysis.
Leave with a clear vision, practical approaches to your specific challenges, and the confidence to navigate your research career on your own terms—whether you're a PhD student, early career researcher, or career changer.
This online course runs from October 20th November 21st.
It includes three synchronous meetings, asynchronous chat to discuss issues and progress, experiential activities, and open-access materials and resources. To create a learning community, enrolment is limited to 50 participants.
n.b. The first synchronous session will be at the given time; the dates and times of the subsequent sessions will be determined by the best fit for participants who register, and for your convenience, recordings will always be provided.
If you have any questions, please email us at yourresearchcareer@gmail.com and we'll be happy to help.
